Kalu Urges Oxford Students To Emulate Religious Tolerance From Other Countries.

Eminent business mogul and former governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has pleaded with students in United Kingdom to emulate lives of Muslims and Christians in places like  Banjul, Senegal ,  Sierria Leon , Liberia among others whom he said cohabitate peacefully  and enjoin each other to celebrate their different  religious festivals without prejudice. 



He also charged them to join other Nigerians in praying for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari whom he disclosed  to have visited earlier in  London . He also added  that the President would be returning  to Nigeria before June 11.


Kalu made the calls on Friday while addressing African students from Oxford University including staff and students drawn from Oxford Brookes University , Bellerbys College and neighbouring colleges in Oxford, United Kingdom during a Ramadan fast breaking dinner he hosted.


 He accused African leaders of using sentiments to cause hatred among the populace in the cover of religion. 

Nigerians advocating for religious considerations according to him do not love humanity  but their political interests. 

 "African leaders and people should stop causing problems, there is a lot of hatred being preached in Nigeria. I am always  excited when ever I go to Gambia, Senegal, Liberia, Freetown and I see Muslims and Christians sharing things in common.  I wish it could have been in Nigeria because the Christmas in Banjul looks like a Sallah in Banjul and  Sallah in Banjul looks like a Christmas in Banjul . You hardly recognize the difference, so those of you who are not from Nigeria might not know what you are enjoying. But I am sure that  with increasing religious enlightenment on tolerance  and understanding Nigeria people should be doing same ." He said



Speaking on Ramadan observed by muslims,  Kalu stated that although he is a committed Catholic by faith,  it doesn't restrict his association with muslims. 

According to him, he has been observing Ramadan for the past 25 years adding that part of his upbringing was by  Hausa Fulani .

"I am a committed Catholic it takes a good Christian to respect a good Muslim and vice versa. It is bilateral. So I believe that we Africans should start living in peace. Although this is not the first nor the second time of coming to your school  ,but I am grateful for the time we are spending together today and above all ,breaking fast together with you. Prior to my daughter's entrance to this university,  I have always visited on invitation for participation in your programmes.   With me here is  Mr Saheed he is from Pakistan and has been my friend .  He also used to work with President Pervez Musharraf and Musharraf is also in London I have also seen him. So you can see that we are all  families. There is no difference between Christians and Muslims.  It is  only people who want to use it for political reasons that preach this all over the world. 



"I want you to remain committed to peace and oneness. You shouldn’t wait  to be told that we want you to leverage on your education and exposure and preach peace all over Africa especially Nigeria.



 Further speaking,  he said,  "You should preach against terrorism and preach against killers; those who doesn't want us to live in peace Those of you from Nigeria should not forget to pray for your President. He is in London and I just finished seeing him before coming here. He is doing very fine and will soon return to the country to continue his work. Both the Bible and Koran requests us to be praying for our leaders and it is good you keep praying for our leaders.

The Plot to stop the re-election of Governor Ben Ayade in 2019 has taken a new twist as not only the oppositon APC is planning to stop  his bid to continue in 2019 but they is now a serious threat from his own ruling People Democtatic Party. Ahead of Defection: Ayade Meets With APC South-South Caucus .

Strong information reaching our newwsdesk suggest Cross River governor Sen. Ben Ayade has heightened plans to defect to the All Progressive Congress. The governor is said to have met with leadership of the APC at the South- south level spearheaded by Transport minister, Rotimi Ameachi. The governor allegedly pleaded with Ameachi to provide a soft landing for him in the state as he defects with all his political structures. The rumour of the governor defection has been making the rounds for more than a year now, but this heightened decision to defect is not unconnected with the supreme court judgement with declared Markarfi as the authentic national chairman of the PDP. Ayade has been a supporter of the Sheriff faction and so is said to be scared of his future in PDP under the chairmanship of Markafi who he expects to take his own pound of flesh when the time comes. ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike From Monday 14th August

Following the outcome of the referendum meeting held Sunday afternoon in Abuja by the union leaders, the Academic staff Union of Universities has declared an indefinite strike from Monday 14th August 2017. This the Union leader says is to persuade the Federal government to meet their demands. This came after several branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have voted overwhelmingly for members in both federal and state universities to embark on an indefinite strike to press home the implementation of their demands. ASUU branches nationwide on Friday held a referendum in line with an earlier directive by the National Executive Council (NEC) to vote whether the strike will be indefinite strike, one month strike, one week warning and no strike. APC Chieftain Embarrases Ayade, Donates Bridge To Community.

An APC chieftain Chief Ray Ugba Morphy has embarrassed Governor Ben Ayade when he single handedly constructed a bridge for the Ukpagada community in Ogoja even when the governor has not been able to complete any infrastructural project in the state since he was elected. The Ukpagada community had been cutoff from the rest of society for more than  52 years as the only bridge linking them to town was destroyed destroying during the Civil War and as such were unable to convey their farm produce to the market and earn revenue for themselves. Several cry to government for assistance fell on deaf ears until Chief Morphy who is not even a member of the community came to thier rescue. There are indications that all is not well in Cross River State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over claims by the state’s National Assembly Caucus of highhandedness and non-inclusive congresses by Governor Ben Ayade. The lawmakers from the state in a letter to the National Chairman of the PDP dated October 12, 2017 warned that unless something urgently is done to remedy the situation, the party stands a poor chance in the 2019 elections. Imoke Mocks Ayade, Says He Did Better Even As A Sleeping Governor.

Former Cross River Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has chided his incumbent, Senator Ben Ayade over his (non) performance. Imoke told an audience of teeming youths during the 7th edition of ‘The Bridge Leadership Foundation’ that people use to describe him as “The sleeping Governor,” when he was in office but that he constructed rural roads which was a major achievement in his administration that lasted from 2007 to 2015; though truncated twice by court judgments where he was sacked. “When I was governor you people said I was a sleeping governor, but I think you would appreciate a sleeping governor who constructed rural roads across the 18 LGAs than what you have now,” Imoke said in apparent reference to Mr. Ayade’s poor performance in road construction.
