For a long time since I started writing, I have never found it this difficult to even put the first paragraph of my piece down as I have today talk more of a complete piece ,obviously because of the prevailing circumstance within my state in the last few months which have made me lethargic and so kindly beg for your understanding for a likely uninteresting and not too coherent piece.
Ayade governance of Cross River State; where do I start from, where do I end?
Let me try, you remember how we bamboo zed the media space with our protest when Ayade released the names of 36 commissioners and dozens of Special Advisers and Personal Assistants, how we complained that in view of the dwindling resources of the state, it was very unwise for the government to have an over bloated cabinet with duplicated responsibilities, citing states like Lagos, Kaduna etc. who with better financial standing still found it necessary to operate with a lean cabinet to save cost and promote efficiency. We simply thought with that level of outburst from the public we have had the worst of Ayade but no, we were wrong, it was just a preamble of terrible things to come out the government as few months later we were shocked to the marrows when Ayade again released another list of names of political appointees that even had had envoy to the world bank, board members to the Calabar water ways. Yes you heard well and clear! Envoy to the World Bank and board members to the Calabar waterways, please don’t ask me if you thought those fall under the exclusive list. We were really shaken to the roots when this appointments were announced, we again rose up to condemn the actions and ensuring that the whole world heard us so that we will not be accused of not doing enough to end this economic suicide mission we are been let into.
Then, in a time where all infrastructure in the state has collapsed, a time where local government employees are been owed five months of salaries, a time where our fathers and mothers who spent the better part of their lives working for government have not been paid, a time where the state could not even pay students WAEC fees and as a result, students examination results were withheld. A time where the most peaceful state is now ranked top among crime prone states in the country, we now heard that Ayade has released another list of more than one thousand political appointees to add to the already existing one thousand plus. A list that contained appointments for Personal Assistants for the 18 paramount rulers in the state, a list that contained appointments for Personal Assistants on Cassava, PA on Maize, PA on Cocoa, PA on rice, PA on groundnut etc. A list that contained appointments for Assistant Personal Assistant on youth mobilization in each of the 18 local governments in the state.
When this list of appointments were released not even the fiercest of Ayade critics including Ifere Paul could write to condemn the action, my friend Inyali Peter managed to put up something yesterday, we were rather helping the government to publicize the list and allow the world judge.
I have managed to put this down to let the world and posterity know that our silence should not be mistaken for agreement, we have simply been overwhelmed and left speechless by Professor Senator Governor Benedict Ayade.
