Nigerians And thier Usual Cry Of Innocence. By Inyali Peter.

Why do

I feel pained that some of our leaders and public officer holders have little or no respect for us as a people. The play on our intelligence to suit their selfish interests. It's only in this part of the world that people literally become saints and whistle blowers overnight immediately they are down or accused of crime.

During the budget padding scandal, reps Abdullahi Jibrin was everywhere defending their actions to have padded the budget but immediately he was removed as the Chairman, House Committee on appropriation, he became a saint, calling people he defended before criminals.

While I'm not for or against all the allegations he raised, I'm very disappointed that Jibrin feels he can play on Nigerians intelligence. Using Nigerians to fight his personal interest. If he was still the appropriation chairman, I know he would have defended padding with every instrument at his disposal like he did before.

Again, Justices Inyang Okoro and Ngwuta have applied the Nigeria public office holders "don't go down alone" syndrome. They have come out with all sorts of allegations against government officials and the ruling party.

As shameless as this may be, some Nigerians have again fallen to their antics. Perhaps, this just reemphasized the fact that gullibility is the biggest challenge with the young generation.

As Honourable justices and the conscience of an average Nigerian, if at all the allegation is anything to go by, what stopped them from reporting them to the appropriate authorities or even charging them to court for attempting to bribe judges? I am not a lawyer but I know intent constitute a crime in law.

For me, I think they have committed bigger crimes against the nation, their consciences and humanity for keeping this as top secret till now (if it ever happened). The judges have not only betrayed public trust but their consciences and must face the consequences of their actions.

The shameless judges must stop ridiculing themselves by trying to divert attention. They must face trial and stop this antics of trying to incite the public against any political party or government officials. If they failed to report the bribery attempt before that means they were somewhat comfortable with the deals which it is itself a crime.

Marshal McLuhan asserts that "the medium is the message". For waiting till they are charged of corruption before revealing what allegedly happened, they have destroyed every chance of getting the people to accept their stories. A message coming from a judge accused of corruption is also a corrupt message.

If this people have confidence in the judiciary, they should honourably stop the noise and face their trials. Court of public opinion may not help them, they should proof their innocence before a court of competent jurisdiction.
