My Take On The NGO Bill As Proposed By The House Of Representatives By Prince Mike Abuo

First and foremost let me make this clear, I refute the #NGORegulationBill #SayNoToNGOBill in entirety and I call on Nigerians to do same too.The constitution of #Nigeria and our basic rights assures us of freedom of assembly.

Government  can't and shouldn't sensor people's assembly and how they decide to operate as long as their operation is within the law.We already have laws as regards how individuals and groups should operate within the Nigerian State.Under no guise should Government regulate the operations of a Non Governmental Organization.

If organizations or individuals in organizations have been involved in sharp practices the organization's representatives should be made to face the law. No government should regulate how people run their organizations or whom and how they associate or execute their projects.

Not even the Corporate Affairs Commission have the powers to decide whether people can assemble or not under any name of their choice.Before the formation of the entity called Nigeria groups have always existed in our social setting and have and will always operate independent of government.

 You can't regulate the mouth piece to a truly independent society which are Non Governmental Organizations.The role of NGOs etc at deepening democracy can't be over emphasized.CSOs,NGOs,CBOs etc are veritable tools to deepening democracy and their independence can't be subermerged into the pit of executive,legislative or judicial impunity.

Our legislators should focus on other critical areas requiring immediate intervention like the Biafra Agitation and Militarization and infrastructural marginalization of the South East; Resource Control in the Niger Delta; Corruption and the degrading level of our country's educational system; crumbling economy and increase innpoverty amongst our populace and the question of billions expended year in year out on infratructural development across the country yet nothing to show for these expenses;  import and oil based economy; rising price of goods and services and answers to populists call for true federalism.

Any attempt by the National Assembly to pass this bill will further decline her already fading goodwill amongst the people.I therefore call on  #CrossRiverStateLegistlators at the House of Representative to vote and lobby her members against this empty,wicked,obnoxious,inconsequential,diseased,watery,spiceless,tasteless,undemocratic,sensless and irrational yet everything negative #NGOBill.

Demcocracy is about the people and if those representing us at the House of Representative are for the people, they should therefore listen to the voice of majority and focus on people based legislation.

The Plot to stop the re-election of Governor Ben Ayade in 2019 has taken a new twist as not only the oppositon APC is planning to stop  his bid to continue in 2019 but they is now a serious threat from his own ruling People Democtatic Party. Our source reliable informed that major power brokers in the party have agreed to stop Ayade in 2019 and have even zoned the governorship to the South and have fingered former PDP State Chairman and present Chairman Water Board Ntufam Ekpo Okon to fly the party flag in 2019. Ahead of Defection: Ayade Meets With APC South-South Caucus .

Strong information reaching our newwsdesk suggest Cross River governor Sen. Ben Ayade has heightened plans to defect to the All Progressive Congress. The governor is said to have met with leadership of the APC at the South- south level spearheaded by Transport minister, Rotimi Ameachi. The governor allegedly pleaded with Ameachi to provide a soft landing for him in the state as he defects with all his political structures. The rumour of the governor defection has been making the rounds for more than a year now, but this heightened decision to defect is not unconnected with the supreme court judgement with declared Markarfi as the authentic national chairman of the PDP. Ayade has been a supporter of the Sheriff faction and so is said to be scared of his future in PDP under the chairmanship of Markafi who he expects to take his own pound of flesh when the time comes. ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike From Monday 14th August

Following the outcome of the referendum meeting held Sunday afternoon in Abuja by the union leaders, the Academic staff Union of Universities has declared an indefinite strike from Monday 14th August 2017. This the Union leader says is to persuade the Federal government to meet their demands. This came after several branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have voted overwhelmingly for members in both federal and state universities to embark on an indefinite strike to press home the implementation of their demands. ASUU branches nationwide on Friday held a referendum in line with an earlier directive by the National Executive Council (NEC) to vote whether the strike will be indefinite strike, one month strike, one week warning and no strike. The meeting of ASUU NEC is currently ongoing at the union’s secretariat at Abuja to deliberate on the outcome of the referendum conducted by the branches. APC Chieftain Embarrases Ayade, Donates Bridge To Community.

An APC chieftain Chief Ray Ugba Morphy has embarrassed Governor Ben Ayade when he single handedly constructed a bridge for the Ukpagada community in Ogoja even when the governor has not been able to complete any infrastructural project in the state since he was elected. The Ukpagada community had been cutoff from the rest of society for more than  52 years as the only bridge linking them to town was destroyed destroying during the Civil War and as such were unable to convey their farm produce to the market and earn revenue for themselves. Several cry to government for assistance fell on deaf ears until Chief Morphy who is not even a member of the community came to thier rescue. There are indications that all is not well in Cross River State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over claims by the state’s National Assembly Caucus of highhandedness and non-inclusive congresses by Governor Ben Ayade. The lawmakers from the state in a letter to the National Chairman of the PDP dated October 12, 2017 warned that unless something urgently is done to remedy the situation, the party stands a poor chance in the 2019 elections. Information has emerged on why fiery social critic and self style social change agent Barr. Dr. Joseph Odok was attacked yesterday at Zanzi Bar in Calabar. Imoke Mocks Ayade, Says He Did Better Even As A Sleeping Governor.

Former Cross River Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has chided his incumbent, Senator Ben Ayade over his (non) performance. Imoke told an audience of teeming youths during the 7th edition of ‘The Bridge Leadership Foundation’ that people use to describe him as “The sleeping Governor,” when he was in office but that he constructed rural roads which was a major achievement in his administration that lasted from 2007 to 2015; though truncated twice by court judgments where he was sacked. “When I was governor you people said I was a sleeping governor, but I think you would appreciate a sleeping governor who constructed rural roads across the 18 LGAs than what you have now,” Imoke said in apparent reference to Mr. Ayade’s poor performance in road construction.
