Tanker Driver Risk Life to Save Community; Jumps Into A Burning Petroleum Laden Tanker And Drive To Safety

A brave Tanker driver have saved an entire community of What will have been described as a "black Saturday" when he jumped into a burning petroleum laden tanker and drove to a safe distance.

According to eyewitness reports Thursday, it was like a Hollywood scenery when the driver of a petrol tanker suddenly jumped into it. He had hardly parked it in a filling station while the fuel in it was being emptied into underground tanks of the petrol station when some smoke was noticed from underneath the truck. Then little fire sparked therefrom and everybody started to run for safety.

While alarms were raised and commotion ensued, the driver rather rushed towards the vehicle. He jumped into the long truck and raced it out of the filling station, heading towards the somewhat lonely Erin-ile-offa road, Kwara state.

The action-movie-like endeavour of the driver almost cost him his life when a large explosion came from the 30,000 liter capacity tank; and the next scene was the driver jumping out of the vehicle, throwing himself into the verges along the high way. That was the extent he could save Erin-ile community from a more grievous calamity that could have hit its people.

The incident caused some diversion so that motorists plying the road enrout Offa/Ilorin had to settle for a longer and rough routes to complete their journey.
